The Dhulikhel day hike is one of the most beautiful day hikes within the Kathmandu valley. The hiking trail passes through colorful dense forests and offers majestic views of the Himalayas surrounding the traditional village. The hike takes us to Nagarkot and Dhulikhel to see the views of the towering snowcapped peaks of the central Himalayas. Nagarkot is 32 Kilometers from Kathmandu and lies at 2175 meters above sea level at a stunning location right above Bhaktapur. Nagarkot is well known for eye-catching views of sunrise and sunset over the Himalayas. It is one of the traveler’s most attractive sites out of the Kathmandu valley and offers fine views of eight Himalayan ranges, including Numbur Himalayan Range, Everest Himalayan Range, Rolwaling Himalayan Range, Jugal Himalayan Range, Langtang Himalayan Range, Ganesh Himalayan Range, Manaslu Himalayan Range and Annapurna Himalayan Range. Dhulikhael is another well-known tourist destination, located in the Kavre district. The numerous cultural attractions, the beauty of the traditional lifestyle, and the green vegetation make Dhulikhel an ideal place to visit to show what Nepal can offer. Dhulikhel is a paradise for its visitors offering phenomenal panoramic views of white snow-capped mountains as well as picturesque valley views. Views of the greater Himalaya including Mt. Lhotse (8516 m), Mt. Gaurishanker (7134 m), Mt. Langtang Lirung (7234 m), Mt. Ganesh Himal (7429 m), Mt. Annapurna (8091 m), and many other peaks can be seen.
Our 5-6 hour walk from Nagarkot ends at Dhulikhel where we take private transport for a one hour drive back to Kathmandu.
Detail Itinerary:
Day 1: Early in the morning our transport will be ready to drive we from the hotel to Nagarkot (2100m). A one and one half hour scenic drive takes us through the heritage city of Bhaktapur and passes through green meadows. WE arrive at Nagarkot, our hiking start point.
From Nagarkot the hike passed through Chir-pine forest alongside many local village trails. Here occasional encounters with wildlife are possible. We hike through the beautiful countryside, villages (especially of Tamang community), small tea-shops, and farmlands. The trail passes along Rhonnie Bhanjyang, Kankre, and Tanchok with views of the distant Jugal Himal, Gauri Shankhar, Dorje Lhakpa, Ganesh Himal and the Langtang range. Soon Dhulikhel is reached and we can admire the Himalayan views and the valley below from the hilltop. Afterwards our vehicle picks us up and take us back to Kathmandu.
